CHRISILA MAIDA is an illustrator, designer, embroidery-thread-detangler, perpetual reader, and run-on writer. She’s based in her hometown of Brooklyn, NY, and is constantly inspired by its oddities.
Her work is a mix of gouache, colored pencil, pastel, and embroidery. Those textures together, along with a bold, vintage color palette, gives her work a quaint charm.
She is currently designing children’s books at Candlewick Press, but is always seeking fun freelance opportunities in both illustration and design. When she’s not illustrating, writing, designing, or embroidering, she’s probably reading about Greek mythology or trying to summon some ghosts of old New York.
She graduated from Parsons School of Design with a dual-degree BFA in Illustration and BA in Writing. She originally wanted to become a lawyer, but that was because she saw the musical Chicago and actually just wanted to be a tap dancer. But illustration will do!
